Obituary for Lyle Benton Everett Jr

Lyle Benton "Ben" Everett, born 1/11/1943 in Arcata, CA, died peacefully 2/28/2010 while watching the US/Canada gold medal hockey game. Ben is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters Susan and Melissa, son in law Ted, sister Judy, in-laws Fred and Junie Pitz, and a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends. Attending UC Berkeley during the crucial years of the Sixties, Ben has plenty of stories of the cultural switch from Leave It To Beaver to Altamont. Masters Degree in Engineering fresh in hand he lit out for Sacramento, where, along with a lucrative job with the US Bureau Of Reclamation, he met wife Sandy Rotramel Everett in 1968, settling in her hometown of Roseville. Ben was employed by the Bureau for 20 odd years before serving as a private consultant in various engineering firms. Despite his experience in water tables and soil salinity, Ben's great love (outside of his wife and two lovely daughters) was the Sierra Nevada. Hiking the John Muir trail from Yosemite down to an ascent of Mt. Whitney was one of his favorite accomplishments. Always ready with a steaming plate of BBQ, a risque joke or one of his brutal bear hugs, Ben Everett leaves a gaping absence that no mere mortal can fill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of California, Berkeley Athletic Department Development Program c/o Ms. Diana Fogg 195 Hass Pavilion Berkeley, CA 9470. Checks should be made out to the: UC Regents. The memo line should read: "Ben Everett Football Fund." A celebration of Ben's life will be held at a later date. GO BEARS!
